Model slams the industry's idea of 'diversity'

A model from the UK is calling for an industry overhaul into what brands are labelled as 'diverse' when it comes to body shapes and sizes.

Ebony Maude, 20, says that while she fits a size eight, her curvier bottom half which is more suited to a 10 and she claims that her 'mid-size' figure is the reason why she fails to book jobs.

"Over the past eight years and hundreds of castings, I've only ever booked one job," Maude tells The Sun.

"I've always been convinced that's got something to do with my size."

While she admits that no casting directors have ever explicitly told her that it was her size that was the issue, Maude explains that they often skirt around her 37-inch hips, telling her that she must lose a few inches to fit the typical size eight 34-inch mould.

She also says that the new trend of diversity within brands, actually only includes two types of bodies and fails to represent the 'in-between sizes.'

"Everybody is so obsessed with being diverse that they're not realising every single person has a different body shape," Maude says

"You don't need to get one girl that's a size six and one girl that's a size 16 and put them in a campaign and say, 'we're diverse'.

"Most of them are trying to fill the mould of curvy-curvy or super skinny girls, there's no-one in between."

Maude assures that while her frustrations are passionate, she is happy and healthy in the way she looks and says she never weighs herself, nor has she ever had an eating or body image disorder, rather putting her work energy into beauty brands with less focus on the body.

"I did have moments where I thought I needed to lose weight," Maude admits.

"But I don't want to change who I am, I think anyone of any size should be able to make it as a model."
