'It's crazy': The hack every wedding guest needs to know to save hundreds

Not just for bride and groom, but for the wedding party and wedding guests.

Things like travel costs, an outfit, hair and makeup (if you're so lucky) and a wedding gift can get quite pricey.

Now, one wedding guest has revealed a handy wedding guest hack to help you save some cash – and it's easier than you may think.

And if you like vintage, you're in luck.

Fashion-enthusiast, TikToker and vintage lover Shan, 28, who is based in Melbourne, managed to snag a stunning wedding guest outfit for just $12.50.

And adding to the bargain was the fact that the vintage dress was 100 per cent silk.

So where did she find it? On eBay Australia; and she's told nine.com.au exactly how she did it.

"I actually wasn't specifically looking for a wedding guest dress. But I did came across this listing," she says about her purchase.

"I just found it and loved it."

For Shan, she narrows down her searches on ebay by looking for certain materials she wants to wear first, like silk, looking for certain sizes and then using prices to help filter search results.

"I usually search or start by material, everyone is different but I really like to wear silks, cottons and linens... more than those artificial materials," she says.

"I start with just a search of silk, not even silk dress, and I use the eBay filters heaps. I start with filtering by size and I keep it quite broad.

"I'm very much into colours, so I also add a filter for the colours I'm looking for and I also filter by price. Usually I limit it to $50."

Another nifty trick is to actually save the search.

"Then saving that search, it'll pop up when there's new listing that match the search." she says.

She also recently picked up another dress off the site for just $10.

"You can wear the sorts of dresses you want, feel good about yourself, express your style and wear something really unique, and it costs you $10 instead of a $1,000 dress," she says about her love of silk dresses.

"It's crazy and definitely makes a huge difference financially.

"If you've never done it before, try it! In this case, all you're going to lose is $10!"

Anne-Marie Cheney, eBay Australia's Fashion Lead, tells nine.com.au searches for the word "vintage" on the site have increased signifcantly of late.

"The word vintage is actually searched 1,200 times every sixty seconds, which I think is amazing," she says.

Another trend is for the colour search of a pale yellow dress and oversized suits and blazers.

She added that searches for vintage wedding dresses are up 42 per cent.

"I really hope to see more brides, as well as guests, getting married in pre-loved wedding dresses," she adds.

Aussie fashion brands are also hugely popular on eBay Australia, she says.

"We have such high velocity searches for Australian fashion brands, Australian women love buying Australian fashion brands, which is testament to the quality and craftmanship of the designers we have here."

These include Aje, Alemais, Scanlan Theodore and Zimmermann.
