A debt-free advocate from the US has candidly recalled the time she took out a loan for her wedding lingerie, adding a cheeky financial lesson.

Addressing her Instagram followers, Whitney Sinecoff, 33, shared the story of taking out a Victoria's Secret credit card in 2007 in order to buy lingerie for her big day.

"I was convinced that on my wedding night I needed something awesome to wear and I went CRAZY," the online health and fitness coach writes in a caption.

"Before I knew it, I had slapped over $700 in one hour in UNDERWEAR on a credit card! WHO DID I THINK I WAS?!"

The mum-of-two jokes about the unnecessary purchase, saying she wasn't "putting on a 3 hour private show" and thus had absolutely no reason to spend that much on underwear.

"And guess what?? That underwear didn't last me 5 minutes," Sinecoff adds.

"JOKES ON ME - turns out your spouse prefers ya NAKED!"

Sinecoff then explains the underwear proceeded to sit in her drawer while she made monthly payments with over 24 per cent interest.

The fitness coach openly discusses her debts on her Instagram page, claiming she and her husband have paid off $55,393 of their $137,060 debt since October 2018.

Preaching to her followers to knuckle down and become financially independent and try to buy everything with cash, Sinecoff ended her comical post by reminding her splurging followers, to take control of their spending. "[Build] a life with a FUTURE bright with FREEDOM rather than hopeless with debt," she added.

"You'll be able to walk into that store and pay cash for all that underwear...but you won't...because you'll remember that your spouse prefers you naked anyway."
