Best Selfie: Darren Palmer's connection to fellow The Block judge Neale Whitaker took place long before they were on the hit renovation show
In 9Honey's weekly series Best Selfie, we present stars with memorable photos to see how they react.
Darren Palmer has been judging The Block for over 14 seasons.
And this Sunday (7.00pm on Channel 9 and 9Now, to be precise), he'll watch The Block go to auction for the 19th time, where five charming 1950s homes that have undergone major renovations will be put up for sale.
After 12 gruelling weeks of blood, sweat and tears, the houses of Charming Street, Hampton East houses are finished, and each one comes complete with a pool and secondary accommodation. Some boast hi-tech garage turning circles, while others have size on their side. Who will be victorious? Palmer isn't quick to define an answer.

"Don't ask a judge because I don't know if I've got it right before," he quips.
"I don't think it's gonna have a lot to do with the interior styling or even the aesthetic as much as it is about the home itself, its orientation and the available square meterage and it's included amenities," he explains.
In this week's Best Selfie, Palmer took us on a scroll down memory lane through some of his Instagram photos.

Palmer may be a long staple of The Block, but his connection to the show goes even deeper.
Palmer's first gig on television was as a contestant on Channel 9 series HOMEmade in 2009, which was made by the same producers of The Block. He caught the eye of executive producers Julian Cress and Justin Sturzaker and the rest is history.

Palmer's close relationship with fellow judge Neale Whitaker adds an interesting twist to his story.
He shares, "When I auditioned, I rang Neale and said, 'Oh, I'm thinking of doing this show. Do you think I should do it?'
"And Neale said, 'I can't advise you on that.' And then I walked in and did that photoshoot, and then Neale walked in front of the judges, and I was like, 'Nah, you sneaky Pete'."
Neale Whitaker was a judge on HOMEmade alongside Sibella Court and host David Heimann.

While Palmer is renowned for his design expertise, his Instagram is not just about work.
He humorously mentions, "That was a little cute holiday moment in Byron Bay."
"My husband was [originally] in that photo, and I took it, and I was like, 'Oh, that's such a good photo. I need a version of it of me.' So, that's why that's on my Instagram," he explains.

He goes on to add, "We've been married for 13 years, and look, tell me you have three dogs without telling me you've got three dogs. Like I'm almost always covered in little bits of hair. So, yeah, we've got a pretty furry family."
Palmer and Duvillard's love story is a captivating one.
"My husband asked me out a few times, and I said no. We went on our first date, and I was like, 'Wow, I'm in trouble'," he recalls.
"Our second date, I stayed and didn't go home, and we were engaged two months after that and married two months after that."
And of course, it wouldn't be a tour of Palmer's Instagram without a shirtless photo or two.

He jokes about this particular post, saying: "That one is [the Promos department at Channel 9's] fault because I turned up, and Shaynna Blaze came up to me and said, 'Have you seen your wardrobe brief?'
"And I was like, 'No, I haven't.' And she said it's your favourite. I'm like, 'What? Shirtless?' She went, 'Yep.' And I was like, 'No way they're getting me shirtless.' Thankfully, I did have a spray tan on."
Looking ahead to the nail-biting auction day, Palmer noted said: "This finale, like those before it, will full of drama and an auction that will have everyone, including me, on the edge of our seats."
"Whoever buys, whatever home wins, hopefully all the contestants win."
Sunday's Block finale is set to be explosive, anything can happen that can make or break a team's chance of taking home a $100,000 cash prize on top of their profits on auction day.
