Cosmopolitan editor: "The idea women can 'have it all' is a lie"

In a surprising declaration, a Cosmopolitan editor says the iconic women’s magazine has been selling its readers a myth for decades.

Speaking with The Times, Farrah Storr, the editor-in-chief of Cosmo UK, has claimed the idea that women can “have it all” - that is, a career and a family - simply isn’t realistic.

Storr and her husband abandoned their plans to have children through IVF because her “ovarian ache” didn’t outweigh the professional sacrifices raising a young family would entail.

“Along the way, I had been forced to make uncomfortable choices,” the author explains.

That women can have - and should aspire to have - satisfying careers, relationships and families simultaneously is an idea the magazine has long since championed.

However, in her experience, Storr found it wasn’t necessarily that straightforward.
