US social media influencer and designer Arielle Charnas has revealed she's been diagnosed with COVID-19.

It comes after the Something Navy blogger was criticised for using her connections to get tested for coronavirus.

In a lengthy post, Charnas told her 1.3 million followers about her positive test result and addressed the recent controversy.

"Like many of you, this pandemic has me on heightened alert and I took what I viewed to be the quick precautions necessary to protect the health and safety of my family and now ultimately the people around me," she said.

Arielle revealed while her husband Brandon is showing symptoms, their daughters Ruby, three, and Esme, one, are not, but they are all isolating until they recover.

The New York City-based mother of two had posted online a video of her drive-through testing, which was dubbed an example of white American "privilege" by popular fashion blog Diet Prada.

"What privilege looks like in the age of Coronavirus," they said alongside a series of images from Charnas's video.

Following Charnas's diagnosis reveal, the blog later updated their post to say: "The issue is still about the flaunting of privilege on social media during a time when so many people who are more at risk are being denied treatment."

Adding: "What's the point of showing/normalising the testing process if it's not available or affordable for so many people?"

According to a Page Six report, the influencer used her personal connection to a local doctor to get tested for both the flu and coronavirus after experiencing a fever, body ache and sore throat.

How can I protect myself and my family?

Good hygiene includes:

  • Clean your hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand sanitiser;
  • Cover your nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing with tissue or your elbow;
  • Avoid close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms;
  • Apply safe food practices; and
  • Stay home if you are sick.

What is social distancing?

Social distancing involved minimising contact with people and maintaining a distance of over one metre between you and others.

When practicing social distancing, you should avoid public transport, limit non-essential travel, work from home and skip large gatherings.
