Happiest worker in the world is a Melbourne man brightening up lockdown

Metropolitan Melbourne is currently under the toughest lockdown laws Australia has seen since the beginning of coronavirus.

But that hasn't stopped one essential worker from walking into his job with a spring in his step every morning.

The man, named Julian, stands at the doors of a Woolworths in Camberwell with a smile so wide and bright, you can spot it even as he wears a mandatory face mask.

Greeting every customer with a friendly welcome and a socially-distanced wave, Julian has been dubbed the happiest worker in Australia.

Jenny Wren posted a video of the man to Facebook, showcasing how "kind and chatty" Julian is to "every single person he encounters".

"He is the happiest human and while we are in Stage 4 lockdown with many people getting stressed and fractious, you simply can't not smile when he greets you!" she wrote.

"His happiness and enthusiasm should be bottled!"

In Wren's video, Julian welcomes each customer that enters the store, shouting, "Hello, how are you?" and "Good to see you again" to each one.

"Welcome, welcome!" he says.

Wren says Julian will even shout out well-wishes to people not even entering the shop, just so that "they don't miss out."

"He brightens the day," she adds.

In the video, Wren asks Julian to "give us a wave", to which he enthusiastically responds.

"I've never seen him any different. He's the happiest guy in Melbourne," she says.

It's safe to say Julian's friendliness is intoxicating; Wren's video of him has attracted 4,500 likes and 350 comments.

"Sometimes all you need is to feel acknowledged. This is fantastic!" wrote one Facebook user.

"How fantastic! What a Legend! Be like the Woollies guy," said another.

One commenter revealed they had been lucky enough to be served by Julian at the check-out.

"He is so nice to get at the check out! Chats away! Give him a bonus Woollies! To be fair- all the check out folks at that Woolies are soooo lovely!" they wrote.

"This is my Woolies and Julian is so wonderful," said another satisfied customer.

Kyle Woodford, an assistant store manager at the Woolworth's Julian works at, commented on the video, saying he would pass on the positive feedback.

"Julian is a truly valued team member who brings so much passion and joy to everything he does and I'm sure you can understand why we have him greeting customers for us," he wrote.
