Andrew Parker-Bowles, ex-husband of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, diagnosed with coronavirus

Andrew Parker-Bowles, the former husband of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, has tested positive for coronavirus.

The Telegraph reports Parker-Bowles, 80, contracted the virus at the annual Cheltenham Festival in Gloucestershire, which ran from March 10 to March 13.

The news raises concern of further COVID-19 exposure to the British royal family, following Prince Charles' diagnosis last week.

During the Festival, Parker-Bowles was pictured in close contact with Princess Anne — whom he once dated — and her daughter Zara Phillips.

"Hundreds" of other people who attended the horse racing event have since reported symptoms consistent with COVID-19, The Telegraph adds.

The Duchess of Cornwall is currently in self-isolation in Scotland, as she has been since husband Prince Charles tested positive for coronavirus early last week.

The future king came out of quarantine on Monday, with doctors declaring him to be in good health.

However, the Duchess will continue to self-isolate separately until the end of the week, in case she too begins displaying symptoms of the virus.

When tested for coronavirus by National Health Service staff in Aberdeenshire last week, she returned a negative result.

"At such an unprecedented and anxious time in all our lives, my wife and I are thinking particularly of all those who have lost their loved ones in such very difficult and abnormal circumstances, and of those having to endure sickness, isolation and loneliness," Charles said in a video message shared on Wednesday.

The Queen's eldest son also praised those on the front line in the National Health Service, saying they needed the country's support.

"It is clearly essential, therefore, that such key people are treated with special consideration when coming off their exhausting duties and trying to do their shopping, for instance, while having to contend with constant anxiety about their own families and friends," Charles said.

Coronavirus: What you need to know

What is the difference between COVID-19 and the flu?

The symptoms of COVID-19 and the flu are very similar, as they both can cause fever and respiratory issues.

Both infections are also transmitted the same way, via coughing or sneezing, or by contact with hands, surfaces or objects contaminated with the virus.

The speed of transmission and the severity of the infection are the key differences between COVID-19 and the flu.

The time from infection to the appearance of symptoms is typically shorter with the flu. However, there are higher proportions of severe and critical COVID-19 infections.

What is social distancing?

Social distancing involved minimising contact with people and maintaining a distance of over one metre between you and others.

When practicing social distancing, you should avoid public transport, limit non-essential travel, work from home and skip large gatherings.

It is okay to go outdoors. However, when you do leave home, avoid touching your face and frequently wash your hands
