This controversial hamburger ingredient usually divides, but Aussies are all for it
Aussies love their hamburgers, but there's one inclusion we are fond of that many simply don't understand: Slices of delicious, tangy, purple beetroot.
A recent Nine.com.au reader poll has asked the question once and for all: "Do you like beetroot on your burger?"

Of those readers who responded, an overwhelming 79 per cent are all for beetroot on their burgers. Just 21 per cent said no.

Beetroot is slightly tangy and slightly sweet, which is why it works on usually savory burgers and this is most likely why some go even further and ask for pineapple on theirs.
The history of beetroot being included on burgers is so interesting, apparently starting as a prank being played on US troops during World War I.
More recently beetroot has been labelled a superfood thanks to it's vibrant colour, vitamins and minerals.
