Constance Hall on the realities of being a step-mum: 'It's really hard'

Constance Hall has admitted being a step-parent can be "really hard", penning a touching post about the realities of blended families.

The mummy blogger married partner Denim Cooke in a secret ceremony in January, becoming step-mother to his two teenage sons, Zeyke and Sunny.

"Marrying somebody with children is marrying them all as a team," Hall writes on Facebook.

"It’s not committing to parent their children. It’s committing to working towards each person's individual needs as a team a team that we call family."

The 35-year-old and Cooke had a child together in May, a son they named Raja.

She also has four children from a previous marriage.

The couple's seven kids live together within the one family home.

"It’s really hard," Hall says. "But what makes it hard, is expecting it to be easy.

"And like all hard work the rewards are exceptional."

Hall's tribute accompanied a photo of Cooke with his two sons. 

"No, I’m not their mother. That’s a title that belongs to a woman who may not be alive anymore but certainly deserves to take the credit along with their dad for these incredible boys."

Hall says that while she's not the boys' birth mother, that does not stop her from partaking in traditional 'mum' roles.

"One day they will marry, or have a baby, or land that job or win some world championship skate Comp and just like a mother I will be there, sobbing my eyes out with pride," she writes.

"Marrying someone with kids is the best thing I ever did and I highly recommend it.

"I love these two boys with my whole heart and all I expect from them in return is to never forget that."
