Vacuum pattern sparks online debate

Is there a correct way to vacuum?

Many would say the correct way to vacuum is just owning a vacuum cleaner (I'm looking at those who think it's fine to sweep carpet), while others have specific ideas of the right way to clean.

A professional cleaner has sparked a heated debate online over the correct way to vacuum, after they uploaded a snap of a recently cleaned carpet covered in triangles.

Kaleigh Johnson, from Oxford, shared the photo to Facebook, explaining she had achieved the pattern by vacuuming in an 'M' shape — apparently the correct way to do it to show the carpet's been cleaned thoroughly.

She captioned the photo, "Don't know about you, but this give me so much satisfaction."

She added, "it shows clients you've actually hoovered."

Other members of the group admitted they also made patterns in the carpet when they vacuumed, with one user writing "Love this. My family think I'm odd but this makes me happy."

Others said they also did it, despite their families not understanding why.

"I do this on my rugs too then walk around them, husband thinks I'm nuts," one person said.

Others disagreed with the idea of leaving a pattern, thinking it was a waste of time.

"I'd also be a tad annoyed that I was paying someone to make pretty patterns on my carpet rather than them cleaning something else!?!?" they said.

Another said, "I have tiles throughout my house but personally I think this looks awful."
