It turns out China could hold the key to happy marriage

Chinese brides are being told to settle for Mr. Okay instead of waiting for Mr. Right.

The advice was given in an editorial run in a state newspaper in the country.

"Marriage is a process of tolerating each other, and it's impossible that everything goes your way," the article that appeared in the Communist Party-run newspaper Sichuan Daily read.

"Change your attitude, return to the reality. Maybe there'll be some imperfection, but your life will be full of it."

The article then went on to suggest women find a 'more or less OK' husband instead of their dream man.

The article could be an attempt by the Communist Party to increase the birth rate in China, with the country overwhelmed with an ageing population thanks to it's former one-child policy, which was enforced until 2015.

The one-child policy has also left China with single women in their late-20s which the culture charmingly refers to as 'leftovers'.

"A very important reason they have become the 'leftover' is that they have idealised love and such idealisation has led many people not to settle for a 'more or less OK' person.

"The ability to compromise on non-principle matters is a sign of magnanimity and contentment."
