'I wish we had more time': Mum's heartache for baby son after tragic cancer death

A mum has shared her heartache after losing her two-year-old son to a battle with paediatric brain cancer in the US.

Taking to social media to voice her grief, CNN correspondent Rene Marsh said that she wished she had more time with her son Blake before his death.

She shared photos of the baby boy, writing that she found a "depth of love" she had never felt before with Blake.

"In your 25 months on earth you taught me how much strength I had stored up in reserve that I didn't know I had. You taught me endurance. You taught me a depth of love I have never experienced," Marsh captioned the pictures.

"You inspired me to keep going when I wanted to give up. You helped me prioritize what is truly important in this life."

The two-year-old died on April 14, following a lengthy battle with brain cancer after being diagnosed in December 2019.

He was just nine months old when he was diagnosed, the news coming as a painful blow for Marsh and her husband Kedric Payne.

They shared parts of Blake's journey online, as well as Marsh's emotional post after his death this month.

Tragically, she and her husband had been told for six months that Blake's cancer was in remission, only to be "blindsided" in November 2020 with the news that it had returned.

Not only that, the cancer had spread and by April the little boy was deteriorating. He died earlier this week.

"I feel blessed and honored to have been your mom. I wish we had more time together but I'm grateful for the time we had," Marsh wrote in her post honouring him.

"I lost my motherhood and I'm mourning it all. I am dedicated to fighting pediatric cancer for the rest of my life…

"I will do it not just to spare other parents from this unbearable pain, but I will do it to forever honor you, Blake. Your life was not in vain my sweet angel.

"Mommy loves you and I look forward to holding and kissing you when we meet again."
