Melania Trump thanks Chelsea Clinton for defending Barron

Chelsea Clinton certainly knows what it’s like growing up in the spotlight while your dad runs the United States of America.

So, after Barron Trump was slammed in the media for his dress sense on Monday, the former First Daughter came out in defence of the 11-year-old. And now First Lady Melania has thanked her for her comments.

"It's high time the media & everyone leave Barron Trump alone & let him have the private childhood he deserves", Chelsea tweeted in response to a story by Daily Caller.

The article suggested Donald Trump's pre-teen son start "dressing the part" of a child living in the White House, after sporting a printed T-shirt, shorts and suede loafers.

"The President wore a fine tailored suit and Melania wore an elegant dress just as jaw-dropping as the last", the piece pointed out.

Adding: "The youngest Trump doesn’t have any responsibilities as the president’s son, but the least he could do is dress the part when he steps out in public".

Melania retweeted Chelsea while President Trump spoke in a long-winded rant in Arizona.

"Thank you @ChelseaClinton - so important to support all of our children in being themselves!", she wrote before adding the hashtag #StopChildhoodBullying.

It’s not the first time Chelsea has stood up for young Barron.

Being just 12 years old when she moved into the White House with dad Bill Clinton and mother Hillary in 1993, the now 37-year-old was not impressed by all the memes of Barron, which followed President Trump’s inauguration in January.

At the time, she told the public: "Barron Trump deserves the chance every child does-to be a kid. Standing up for every kid also means opposing @POTUS policies that hurt kids."

Her comments came after Barron was mocked for playing peekaboo with his nephew while his dad signed his first executive order as President.

The youngster was also targeted after he appeared to be falling asleep during his dad’s victory speech on election night.

Since her father left office in January 2001, Chelsea has remained in the spotlight and even went back on the campaign trail when Hillary Clinton ran for office in 2008 and 2016.

The now mother-of-two recently released a book, called Still She Persisted, detailing 13 American women who changed the world.
