Woman revives clever $5.50 Kmart fascinator hack for Melbourne Cup
An Aussie woman has revived a genius $5 Kmart hack that turns an easy-buy placemat into a fashionable and expensive-looking fascinator.
Just in time for Melbourne Cup, Jazz Ogale da Silva has revealed her last-minute DIY attempt at creating a fascinator in order to celebrate the day in style.
Posting to Facebook group Kmart Home Decor & Hacks Australia, she shared an image of a teal blue placemat she'd bought from Kmart, as well as a plastic headband.

Next to it, she shared a selfie of her final product — an incredible blue fascinator, which she added a small flower pin to.
"Thank you, Kmart! Last-minute DIY for Melbourne cup at work! $5.50," she wrote.
Her efforts come after Sydney woman Louise Palmer tried the same hack for Melbourne Cup last year, having decided she didn't want to blow hundreds of dollars on another Cup Day look.

"Every year I spend a fortune getting ready for [Melbourne Cup], so I wanted to do something different," she told 9Honey.

Palmer drew inspiration from an image on Pinterest, crafting a black, feathered cap out of a few household items for less than $20.
"I went online and saw a woman from America who made a hat from a placemat, so I thought how hard could it possibly be?" she recalled.

Already gaining over 3,100 likes, this year's version of the placemat fascinator is gaining great appreciation from Facebook users, all impressed by the woman's crafty creation.
"Wow, it looks milliner quality!" one user wrote.
"This is incredible, super creative!" another person commented.
