This 'fairytale castle' wedding cake is almost five metres tall

Think you’ve seen some elaborate wedding cakes in your time? You might want to take a breath before you scroll any further.

The towering, castle-inspired cake in the photos below is quite possibly the most impressive baked good to arrive on planet earth.

Created by Indonesia-based Le Novelle Cake for a wedding earlier this month, the multi-tiered ‘See Thru Castle’ concoction stands at 16 feet - that’s just under five metres.

Within the cake itself stands an intricate castle made entirely of sugar, complete with realistic-looking spires, chapels, cherubs, flowers and a moat. 

As if that isn’t wondrous enough, it also appears to be lit from within.

Unsurprisingly, this feat of cake architecture was not a one-person job. The sugar decorations were created by 15 staff from Le Novelle Cake over a space of 30 days.

On the day of the wedding, held at the Trans Luxury Hotel in Bandung, it took six hours to assemble all the parts.

The design of the castle cake was guided by the event's ‘Grand Budapest Wedding’ theme - a nod to Wes Anderson’s colourful 2014 film The Grand Budapest Hotel.
