Cassie Sainsbury reveals she's split from fiance Scott Broadbridge

Australian drug mule Cassie Sainsbury has revealed she has separated from her fiance Scott Broadbridge in a new interview from her Colombian jail.
 
Sainsbury, who is serving a six-year sentence in El Buen Pastor prison for trying to smuggle 5.8 kilograms of cocaine out of Bogota airport in April 2017, told KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O she ended the relationship in February.
 
“For quite some time things weren’t good between us … from the moment I got in here the relationship was doomed,” the 22-year-old South Australian told the radio duo, speaking on the phone from her 'patio'.

“I needed to start thinking about myself and what I needed for myself and my future.

Sainsbury says she hasn’t spoken to Broadbridge since their split.

During Friday morning's interview, Sainsbury also claimed she hadn't been paid the amount she was promised for smuggling the cocaine, which was discovered by airport officials hidden inside headphone packaging.

"What I was told was, the $10,000 [I was to be paid], they would take out my flights and my accommodation and I would be paid what was left over ... roughly $4000-$5000.

"But I never got paid anything."

Sainsbury admitted that while the months since her arrest and conviction hadn’t been “easy at all”, she’d found support within the jail.

“I’ve had a lot of people inside the prison who’ve helped me see it’s not the end of the world, and that my problem isn’t the worst problem,” she said.
 
Sainsbury also described her living conditions, saying the patio she was currently placed in wasn’t “fabulous” but was better than other parts of the jail.

“I keep my distance from the people I know are trying to make trouble, I’m friendly with everyone, and that’s it.”

The drug mule's mother, Lisa Sainsbury, also spoke to KIIS FM on Friday, saying her daughter had become fluent in Spanish during her time in jail.

"She was trying to teach me, she can write and read everything in Spanish," she said.

"I’m still scared for her safety every day," she said.

"It’s just a waiting game, I can’t wait until my little girl’s home."
