Plus size blogger breaks down when talking about the abuse she receives online

Vogue is the holy grail for models, so for a blogger who built her own following from scratch, it could be described as the pinnacle of a career. Unfortunately, for plus size blogger Callie Thorpe, her starring moment has been forever tainted by the backlash she received from online trolls.

The size 24 blogger appeared in a Vogue feature for colour block swimsuits in April this year. She tweeted out a link to the story to her 18,000 followers, understandably proud of her achievement.

In July she tweeted out the article again, saying, "To all the people who called me fat, ugly and treated me like trash because of my weight growing up ... Catch me on Vogue with your WCW."

That tweet has since been deleted. 

The blogger spoke to Yahoo about her success, but after finding around 900 negative comments on the article that she described as “violent and abusive”, the comments were deleted from the site. 

Thorpe has since released her video to her YouTube channel calling for more focus on how plus size women are treated online. She broke down as she told followers: “I was really proud of it," [he Vogue story.] "And I still am really proud of it. 

“But [then] I scrolled onto some really nasty comments about me that — they were just so awful that I couldn't even get them out of my mind after I read them. There were 900 comments, and pretty much all of them were vile."

I often think when I see people talk about the fact that body shaming happens to everybody and I'm like, 'It absolutely happens to everybody, but if you want to see some real vile shit, then take a look at how fat women are treated online. And especially fat women of colour."
