A shocked bride has shared a letter sent to her by her mother explaining why she refuses to attend her daughter's wedding.

The bride shared a copy of the letter on Reddit's 'Wedding Shaming' thread.

The letter begins with the mother saying she'd attempted to discuss this issue with her daughter "on the video call" and that while she is "happy you are getting married and I love you both" she wishes they would marry in a church.

"I am a Catholic woman and mother and although far from perfect, I raised my children as Christian," she says.

"We believe marriage is a sacrament (a blessing God has given us for grace) and is between the couple and God," she writes.

"I can not in my strong belief attend your wedding celebration in a situation outside of our church," she then says.

"I am sorry but it's my belief and church teaching it is a grave sin."

She ends the letter by saying she will "continue to pray for you both and that you will get your marriage blessed in the church by a priest."

The bride shared the letter along with the caption: "Anyone think their wedding planning is going bad.. Here's something to make you feel better."

Not only did she receive this letter from her mother, she also received cruel texts from her dad about her decision not to have him walk her down the aisle and him commenting that she should "lose weight" before the wedding.

And if that's not enough, she was also ghosted by her hair and make up person.

"I hope the wedding is worth the therapy I will need," she added.

"Ugh. I'm so sorry. My dog walked me down the aisle... you can borrow him if you'd like (he's already got a suit and doesn't care where you get married, and he's an atheist)," one Redditer commented.

"And if you need to borrow a mom whose only concern is whether the two of you are happy, who doesn't care if you get married in a church, under a bridge, or anywhere else, who will help you find the perfect person who has earned the right to walk you down the aisle, and will support you (even in person), then I'm very happy to be that mom," they added.

Another shared a similar experience when a family member had refused to attend their wedding because they had "lived in sin prior to."

"I'm so sorry. I hope you have a beautiful wedding and a beautiful life with your new spouse," another Redditer commented.

"I always tell anyone who will listen to just elope. My wife and I constantly wish we had listened to our gut and done this. It will save you money and countless headaches," one said.

"I'm sorry, OP. After all is said and done, as long as the day ends with you being married to the love of your life, then all of the little things they go wrong don't matter," added another.
