A bride is threatening to uninvite her stepsister from her wedding, sparking a family disagreement from which they may never recover.

"My wedding is coming up and since I've gotten proposed to me and my husband have been adamant about pastel colors being worn by the guests," the bride shared on Reddit's 'Am I The A--hole' thread.

She then discovered her stepsister was planning to wear an "expensive dark red dress."

"I'm not a hard to deal with person, but I feel like she shouldn't have bought the dress knowing that I wanted people in pastel colors," the bride continued.

"She also isn't a hard to deal with person usually so I don't know why she is acting like that."

The situation escalated when the bride texted her stepsister telling her "she won't be able to come to the wedding if she's planning to wear that dress."

"She's now telling family that I'm being a bridezilla and acting unreasonable," the bride explains before asking the forum "AITA for telling my sister she can't wear a red dress to my wedding or else she is uninvited?"

The forum was quick to label the bride unreasonable, with one explaining: "Short of white, for cultural reasons, bridal parties should not impose color schemes on guests."

They explained the only dress codes for weddings should be along the lines of "semi-formal" or "formal" but "dictating the color scheme is a bridge too far".

"They're guests and not accessories to the wedding," they continued.

Another commented: "I hate pastel and so do a lot of other people. It's a d-ck move to expect guests to go and get outfits in a colour that they don't like and may never wear again just to fit your aesthetic."

"How are you notifying and enforcing this dress code?" another Redditer wondered. "Is it anyone that shows up in non pastels gets forced to leave?"

"The dress codes for weddings have become insane," another agreed. "We are wedding guests, not props."

"What's more important to you?" another questioned. "Having a perfect colour scheme or having your sister with you?"

"You're hosting a social event. That means you have the social obligation of creating a welcoming, comfortable experience for your guests," another said.

"YTA (you're the a--hole), get a grip would you, don't be that bride," added another.
