Choosing an outfit for a wedding can be tough, but one woman who thought she'd made a safe choice ended up being kicked out of her brother-in-law's wedding because her dress was "apparently" too white for the bride.

The woman explained on Reddit that she and her brother-in-law had been close for years, so when he decided to wed his girlfriend Ashley, he had hoped she would take the unconventional role as one of his groomsmen.

The woman was thrilled, only to later be told that Ashley had vetoed the idea because she wasn't comfortable with it.

"She was concerned about the stag night and that a woman coming along could cause problems," the woman said, adding that her husband was going as well, so she didn't know what 'problems' Ashley was imagining.

Not wanting to cause trouble, she accepted the decision and by the time the wedding rolled around she had forgotten all about it.

That is, until her brother-in-law approached her at the reception looking "mortified" and asked her to change while Ashley stared daggers at her over his shoulder.

Why did she have to change? "Apparently, my dress was white," the woman wrote.

The green floral dress she was wearing had only a few small patches of white between the pattern, but apparently that was enough for Ashley, who insisted the woman had to change despite the brother-in-law thinking it was a "ridiculous" request.

Of course, the woman hadn't brought a back up outfit and told Ashley as much, who had a smug response ready.

"[Ashley] tells me with a smirk that her mother, who is overweight and in her mid-sixties, has a dress I can borrow," she wrote.

"I told her there wasn’t a chance a dress from her mother would fit me and she told me it was either wear it, or go back home and change."

Out of options, the woman decided she was done with the wedding and let Ashley know, telling her firmly that if she went home she wasn't coming back to the wedding.

Her brother-in-law stepped in then, begging her and her husband to stay, but they weren't having it and headed home.

"Ashley has since texted me asking me for an apology and has shared a lot of passive aggressive Facebook memes about ‘stealing the moment’," the woman wrote, though she still felt that her dress was never a problem.

Almost everyone in the comments section agreed with her, hundreds of people writing that they would happily wear her dress to a wedding and Ashley's actions were out of line.
