A wedding is meant to be about one couple, surrounded by family and friends, celebrating the first day of the rest of their lives together.

But often things go awry and the focus pulls off from the newlyweds to someone else in the room.

This is what happened at one particular wedding when a bridesmaid got engaged at her friend's wedding, reportedly leaving the bride furious.

A bride was reportedly furious after a bridesmaid got engaged at her wedding Reddit

A guest at the reception snapped the moment and posted it to Reddit, captioning the photo sarcastically, "a perfect time to propose".

According to the poster, the couple weren't given a heads up about the scene-stealing moment.

"The guy didn’t even ask the married couple. So I would argue this is a bit past rude," the person posting under the name samshoe242 explained.

And users online agreed.

"Stealing somebody else's thunder that they spent years planning is nothing short of a d--- move," one person commented.

Another said: "This is the wedding reception equivalent of Kanye stealing the mic from Taylor Swift".

Although, it would seem this sort of surprise proposal is not an isolated incident, with others sharing similar stories.

"I went to a wedding where this happened. It was the most awkward thing I've ever seen. After 2 minutes, everyone totally ignored the engagement and went back to the wedding and the new fiancees left soon after because no one was giving them attention ."

"Yeah that's insanely rude. I've been to a wedding where there was a proposal but that was worked out between the bride and groom and the guy who was proposing," one person explained, adding: "The girl getting proposed to was the bride's best friend so she was happy to share that day with her. "

While another person noted: "If you make my wedding reception your engagement party you can be damn sure you're paying for half."

It's not known if the newly engaged couple made it down the aisle and if the bride and groom at this wedding attended.
