A bride-to-be has learned a very important lesson about bridesmaids.

Never, ever, EVER let them pick their own dresses.

A bride has been left furious after her bridesmaid sister chose a see-through black gown for her wedding.

"My wedding is in eight days and I told my little sister in January to get a navy dress with flowers on it," she wrote on Facebook.

The bride has complained in a Facebook post.

"She told me today she hasn't ordered a dress yet but she liked this," the bride explained.

"I said that's not appropriate for my wedding especially as a bridesmaid so if this is your hint you don't want to be a bridesmaid just say it," she continued.

"So she has stepped out of being my bridesmaid and I think she still thinks she gets to do all the bridesmaid fun with me and bachelorette fun ... sorry nope!"

The bride had asked her sister to choose a "navy dress with flowers on it".

Clearly her sister missed the brief.

The sheer black gown, thought to be from Fashion Nova, costs just £54 ($98 AUD).

Most Facebook followers feel the gown is inappropriate for a wedding. Fashion Nova

It includes a mesh floral design with a bodysuit lining, padded bra cups and a floor-length, see-through skirt.

While the dress is a popular choice on the website, most feel it is more suitable for a music festival and not a wedding - a view reflected by the first comment.

"It's a wedding, not Coachella," is the first comment.

"Anyone that would wear this dress to a wedding is just trying to show up the bride and be trashy," said another Facebook user, adding fuel to the fire.

Another woman said the dress looks more like "negligee".

"If you showed up to my wedding in negligee, you'd be asked to go back to your home and get a good night's sleep," she says.

"Stunning lingerie," agreed another. "Not appropriate for anything outdoors except a pool party where all you're planning on doing is day drinking and not actually swimming."
