The one change Brendan Fevola is planning before the new baby arrives

Former AFL player and radio host Brendan Fevola is surrounded by girls, and he wouldn't have it any other way.

He and wife Alex have three daughters, and recently discovered they have a fourth on the way, added to his four nieces from brother Jason.

Brendan told 9Honey it was at Christmas he and Jason realised just how out-numbered they are.

"There were just girls everywhere because Jason had his baby," he said. "So we had seven girls, plus Megan my sister-in-law, and Alex. So there was nine girls and just us two. But now there's another girl.

"So we're very out-numbered, but we love it."

It was at Easter that Brendan and Alex were surprised to discover they were having a fourth child.

"We went to America over Easter with the kids and Alex was really sick," he said, telling 9Honey they initially thought it was jet lag.

"And I was like, 'You'll be right hon, have a glass of champagne. We'll go to dinner and have a nice bottle of wine.'"

When the sickness remained, Alex decided to take a pregnancy test.

"And then came down and sat down on the couch and said, 'We're having a baby', and I said, 'What?!'"

Brendan was sure their family was complete, with daughter Mia now 18, Leni starting high school next year and Lulu now in Grade Three.

"I thought I'd conked out," he said of his lingering fertility. "Obviously I haven't. Part of me is like, I'm alright!"

When he told his daughters they were expecting another girl, he said they initially thought he was joking.

"We actually did it on the radio," he explained. "We popped a balloon with all the girls. It was a big black balloon and they'd all predicted boys. And then we popped the balloon and it was all pink. So it was pretty cool. So they'll have another sister.

"I'm a bit of a prankster so they actually thought I was joking for the first five minutes. They thought I was doing a radio stunt."

When they realised he was telling them the truth, he said they were thrilled at the news.

"First thing Lulu said is, 'I'm going to teach her gymnastics, I'm going to teach her how to do a YouTube channel.' So they're really excited."

One thing they won't get to do, however, is name their new baby sister.

"The girls have been pumping out some names," Brendan said. "They've been doing all the You Tubers names and I was like, 'No'."

He said they did think for a while they might be having a boy, because initially the pregnancy seemed different to the first three.

"That's why we thought it was a boy, because she's been really sick," although he said her morning sickness has started to ease.

"She's become a bit of an expert, the fourth time. I just can't believe it. I'm so pumped," adding that he's a bit relieved it isn't a boy.

"I'm sort of glad it's not a boy because I wouldn't know what to do," he said.

While the baby isn't due until November 28, the couple have a lot to do because they gave away all of their baby gear a long time ago.

And that includes buying a bigger car to fit his family in.

"We have to get a bigger car, a seven-seater, a little mini van," he said, describing his daughters and nieces as veritable netball team.

Brendan says he loves having girls.

"They love their dad, which is a positive," he said. "I just don't know anything different...we've got all the Barbies and the girlie stuff, there's makeup everywhere, shampoo for hair, cleansers.

"Everything's for girls. I'm lucky to have the sports channel on the TV."

Not that he minds. Brendan is clearly loving family life.

"I'm the sucker," he said. "I do spoil them."

"I can't wait for Christmases when they're older and they are there with their kids, and it's going to be huge.

"It's going to be like a big Brady Bunch."

Now Brendan just has to figure out how to fit a fourth tattoo on his stomach.

"I've got all the girls tattooed on my stomach. It will have to be a short name...three or four letters."
