A woman has died of cancer just seven weeks after her wedding.

Yvonne Owen from Milton Keynes in the UK was diagnosed with Stave IV cancer of the stomach lining in April this year. She was given six months to live with the chance of extra time following chemotherapy treatment but died this week.

Her husband Ricky confirmed the news on Facebook.

It was following her diagnosis that the couple decided to get married, with Yvonne, 40, reaching out to her family and friends via social media to put the ceremony together quickly.

"We've been engaged for 10 years," Yvonne told MK Citizen at the end of April. "Each year we kept saying we'd get married next year, but there was always something that cropped up. Money was tight and we just never got round to it."

Friends set up a crowd funding page online to help pay for the nuptials and local businesses rallied around to give her a dream wedding day, providing a dress, a car, flowers, a cake, make up services and a DJ.

Yvonne spoke about the realisation she wouldn't live to see her children grow up.

"Obviously I opted for the chemo... I will do absolutely anything to gain more time with my daughters," she said. "I want to be as positive as possible and give them as many beautiful memories as possible. But all I keep thinking is that I'll never see them grow up."

The couple married on September 5.
