Little boy drowns after he wandered from hotel room

A boy who drowned in Greece has been identified as Theo Treharne-Jones from Wales.

Theo, five, drowned in the swimming pool of the hotel where his family were staying in Kos.

It is believed he wandered off while his parents Nina Treharne and Richard Jones were sleeping,

The couple, who work as musicians, had visited the same location the previous year.

A neighbour at their home in South Wales has described the boy's death as "absolutely heartbreaking".

"They are such a lovely family and the two boys are real sweeties," Merthyr Tydfil told Metro. "They are a really close family. Nina's mum died recently and this is even more devastating for them. "My thoughts and best wishes are with them."

Theo was found dead on Saturday.

Police in Greece are investigating the tragedy. Theo's parents and hotel staff have been questioned.

A spokesperson for travel operators TUI told the Metro, "We are aware of the tragic incident at the Holiday Village KOS, Greece and our thoughts are with the family.

"Our team in [the] resort is currently supporting the family and we will continue to assist in whatever way we can," they continued. "The safety and well-being of our customers and staff is our primary concern and our dedicated resort team is working with the authorities and hoteliers."

They said the matter is "currently still under investigation".

Local councillor Lisa Mytton said local authorities are supporting the family.
