Boris Johnson's wife Carrie announces they are expecting third child

Carrie Johnson, wife of former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, has announced that not only she is pregnant with the couple's third child, but that she is also due very soon.

Revealing the news on Instagram, Carrie shared that a "New team member [will be] arriving in just a few weeks," along with a picture of herself walking with the couple's two children, Wilfred, three, and Romy, one.

"I've felt pretty exhausted for much of the last 8 months but we can't wait to meet this little one," shared the soon-to-be mum-of-three, with an additional picture of one of her children's hands resting on her belly.

"Wilf is [very] excited about being a big brother again and has been chattering about it nonstop. Don't think Romy has a clue what's coming…She soon will!"

The birth of the couple's last child was marred by scandal, with Boris finally admitting to his child from an extra-marital affair prior to his youngest daughter's birth.

Speaking to NBC's Today showhe was asked by an interviewer if he had six children, to which he replied "yes."

At the time, this number included four children with his ex-wife Marina Wheeler, one son with Carrie, who he had married in 2021, and one daughter from the affair he had in between.

The number of children Johnson has had been a point of contention in British politics for years prior, after an English court discharged an injunction prohibiting news organisations from reporting the existence of his daughter as the result of an extra-marital affair.

This new child will bring Johnson's total number of children to eight.

Carrie previously revealed she had suffered a miscarriage before Romy's birth, referring to the child as their "rainbow baby"

"Fertility issues can be really hard for many people, particularly when on platforms like Instagram it can look like everything is only ever going well," she had shared in 2021.

"I found it a real comfort to hear from people who had also experienced loss so I hope that in some very small way sharing this might help others too."
