'My father-in-law billed me for a broken wine glass'

Relationships with a partner’s family can be tricky at the best of times, but one anonymous daughter-in-law has shared an anecdote that takes the cake.
 
Writing on Mumsnet, the woman says she was drinking a mocktail while visiting her parents-in-law last weekend when she accidentally dropped the glass, shattering it.
 
Nobody enjoys seeing a glass broken, but the expectant mum says the incident didn’t seem to be a big deal at the time.
 
“They shrugged it off,” she writes, explaining that she gets along well with her husband of four years’ parents.
 
Understandably, she was stunned to receive an email from her father-in-law a few days later, asking her to pay for the wine glass, which had been much pricier than she realised.
 
“[He said] that I can just transfer the £156 to him or buy the glass online. He even attached a link and included their address, should I not know it by now(!),” the woman writes.

“At first I thought it was a joke only to realise that these people have no sense of humour, so they obviously must expect me to pay them ASAP,” she adds.
 
“I am tempted to buy a £20 glass off Amazon!”
 
Since the post went up, the woman has received plenty of advice from fellow Mumsnet users.
