Bikini Confessions: 'The walk out of the water to cover myself was mortifying'

As told to Maddison Leach

Welcome to Bikini Confessions, 9Honey's summer series that's all about self-love and recognising every body is a 'bikini body'.

In this series, real Aussie women are sharing how they came to love the skin they're in at summertime, and inspiring the rest of us to do the same.

Here, body positive Instagram star Casee Brimblecombe (AKA @caseebrim) reveals how changing the way she views other women in their bikinis improved her own self-confidence.

What's your best memory in your bikini?

It would be the holiday to Italy where my now-husband proposed. We had five days in Positano and I pretty much lived in bikinis the whole time. While I was clothed when he dropped to one knee and popped the question, I did have my bikini underneath. It was such a magical moment!

What's the worst or most embarrassing bikini moment you remember?

One summer we were staying at the coast for the weekend and I was wearing a strapless bikini in the ocean. The surf was pretty rough and a wave came down on me and the clasp came loose and I lost my top.

Because my hands were covering my tatas, I couldn't wave my family down and the beach was pretty busy. The walk out of the water to cover myself with a towel was mortifying!

What's the one thing that always makes you feel good in your bikini?

A bright coloured bikini that makes my tan pop is my absolute favourite kind of bikini to wear.

What do you love most about your body when you're wearing a bikini?

I have a very large bust naturally, so with the right bikini top, they look fabulous.

Do you ever compare yourself to other women in bikinis at the beach? Is that something you want to change?

For me, it's all about changing up the way I think when I catch my mind going down a negative rabbithole about my body. Changing up my mindset to 'Wow, she's really pretty. Good for her,' instead of 'Wow, she's so pretty. Why can't I be like her?' was life-changing for me. What someone else has doesn't discredit or take away from how wonderful and beautiful we are ourselves.

In your opinion, what is a 'bikini body'?

Every body is a bikini body! Rock it, girl!

If you could give your younger self one piece of bikini advice, what would it be?

The advice I'd give myself would be 'I promise no one cares as much as you think they do, so wear the bikini without tearing yourself apart on the inside. You are beautiful at every single stage.'
