'A story you cannot put down': Stars reveal the best book they read this year

Books are not only entertainment, but are windows into another world, and the lessons learnt from them can really shape our own.

Here are some great books our stars have read this year that shifted their perspectives.

The Girl Who Fell From The Sky – Emma Carey. Em's story is absolutely incredible. Her energy and lease of life is infectious throughout the pages of her book and it's a story you cannot put down.

I generally gravitate towards historical fiction or anything set in WWII, but earlier this year, a friend sent me a copy of This is Going to Hurt: Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor by Adam Kay. It was belly laugh-out-loud funny and I pretty much read it all in one sitting.

At the other end of the spectrum, I also read So You've Been Publicly Shamed by Jon Ronson. As eye-opening as it was disturbing, it was a shocking indictment of social media and those who abuse their platform in order to destroy others. It should be required reading for anyone on Twitter.

I don't read books anymore, I have them read to me on Audible! Hands down the best book was The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid.

Born to Run – Bruce Springsteen's autobiography. Magnificent. His recollections of the finest details are priceless.

I really enjoyed Bourdain in Stories by Laurie Woolever. I've always been fascinated with celebrity chefs, food and the pressure they work under. This book interviews different people in Bourdain's life, and gives insight into his rise and then sad fall of the famous chef, travel host and writer. Like so many at the top, he was brilliant, but also had plenty of demons - a great read.

Sultan, Wasim Akram's memoir. Very raw and honest read from one of the greatest fast bowlers we've seen.

I have just finished the Seven Sisters books by Lucinda Riley. There are seven books altogether so it's taken me a while! The eight and final book is about to be released.
