Barnaby Joyce: 'Repairing my relationship with my daughters is something I have to do'

Barnaby Joyce has admitted it will take “a long period of time” to repair his relationship with his four daughters following the affair that saw him lose his role as Deputy Prime Minister.

In February, it was revealed the then-National Party Leader was in a relationship with a former staffer, Vikki Campion, who has since given birth to their first child, son Sebastian.

Their romance had begun while Joyce was married to his wife of 24 years, Natalie, with whom he has four daughters: Bridgette, Julia, Caroline and Odette.

Appearing on The TODAY Show on Wednesday to discuss his new autobiography, Weatherboard and Iron, the MP acknowledged he had “made mistakes” when it came to his family.

Despite Joyce's desire for his children’s privacy, Weatherboard and Iron contains a photo of his baby son, who was born in April.

“Obviously, people have been discussing Sebastian. He’s been on television,” the father of five tells Gardner. 

“Basically, a lot of young children look the same. Adults look different, they have their own personality, and I just know what it’s like to be in the public spotlight.
