Author claims Meghan and Harry planned explosive Oprah interview in advance

A royal biographer has come forward claiming that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry planned their explosive interview with Oprah years ago. 

Last year, the Sussexes' exited the Royal Family to live in the United States. Since then, they have spoken out to American media about the problems that contributed to them leaving 'The Firm'. 

The royal couple's most eye-opening interview was with Oprah Winfrey earlier this year.

In their bombshell TV interview, Harry opened up about toxicity within the palace — revealing that he felt he had to break the cycle and bring his children up in a different environment. The Sussexes also alluded to an alleged racist incident with an unidentified royal, who questioned what the skin colour of their first child would be. 

Royal biographer Andrew Morton has now alleged that he believes the interview with Oprah was in discussion just after Harry and Meghan's wedding in 2018.

In research for his new book, Meghan and the Unmasking of the Monarchy, Morton has claimed that there were negotiations between Harry and Oprah just six months after the pair were married.

"They were planning the big Oprah interview several years before it actually happened," he told CTV's Your Morning.

He also reveals that Meghan could not stay living as a royal for any longer, saying  "She talked about the fact that 'people hate me just because I'm breathing. What's the point of continuing?'"

Morton believes that Harry's decision to quit his duties as a royal were heavily influenced by what happened to his late mother, Princess Diana, and he wanted to protect Meghan from that.

Morton draws on the parallel experiences of Meghan and Diana as well, saying "Diana felt quite suicidal in the early days of her time in the Royal Family, but she got through it in the end, and I think that Meghan and Harry were not prepared to spend that time."
