Jodie Haydon reveals special wedding cameo we can 'be sure of' when she marries Anthony Albanese

Jodie Haydon is preparing to marry Anthony Albanese, though getting the Prime Minister to the altar isn't as simple as it might sound.

The politician's fiancée has opened up about her upcoming nuptials, revealing their exciting plans for the big day to The Australian Women's Weekly. 

Albanese popped the question on Valentine's Day in 2024, taking Haydon out to dinner before suggesting they share champagne on the balcony.

The bride-to-be says since their engagement, "there is no doubt that we have become even closer."

"As we go through this journey, I find more reasons to admire him," she said.

"He works harder than anyone I know and still invests in our relationship every day. I've never felt more loved."

Haydon said the couple's small and intimate wedding "will be a moment when we make that commitment".

"We're doing it in front of family and loved ones, and I see that as … for us," she said.

"It's something we're looking forward to – an important and symbolic way to reaffirm our commitment with each other."

Albanese's previous divorce from the former Deputy Premier of New South Wales, Carmel Tebbutt, means despite their family's wishes, he and Haydon aren't able to marry in the Catholic church.

Leading busy lives, the duo are also yet to set a date for their ceremony, as life gets in the way of their planning.

Haydon says the pair might have a spring wedding, explaining, "Possibly outdoors, in the second half of this year, with our family and loved ones … And you can be sure Toto [Albanese's dog] will make an appearance."

During a recent appearance on The Kyle and Jackie O Show, Albanese revealed how he had asked Haydon to marry him.

"In the morning, first she got roses from the Rose Garden. They were fresh, absolutely fresh, and Jody thought, 'That's pretty good, I probably topped out there,"" he said. 

The pair went out for dinner before heading home to the Lodge, with the politician explaining: "Jodie said, 'I'll get ready for bed,' and I said, 'hang on, hang on, I've got something.'"

"I just told her that I want to spend the rest of my life with her and asked her to marry me and she said yes, pretty quick," Albanese said.

"It was a really lovely moment. Then she got a big shock because I'd put the ring in a box below the seat, and she was shocked about my ability to actually, as Prime Minister, go out and secretly get an engagement ring."
