A woman has been sent a barrage of text messages from a pregnant woman trying to contact the baby's father – but she got his phone number wrong.

The case of mistaken identity then lead to a bizarre texting exchange between the two women, which became increasingly heated.

It started when Sophie Watch, from the UK, received a message from a woman called Abbie who was trying to get in touch with a man she had slept with.

The message read, "Hey it's Abbie, so basically I'm pregnant and you're the only person I've slept with in the past few months so it's yours, can you give me a call or message so we can talk about it?"

Abbie thought she was sending the text to a man called Aidan, but in fact, it was Sophie on the receiving end.

She responded, telling Abbie she had the incorrect number.

But Abbie refused to believe the woman wasn't Aidan.

And she became increasingly angry.

Abbie texted again saying, "f*** off you're always running away from responsibilities. Aidan this is serious".

In a series of follow up texts, Sophie tried her best to prove she wasn't Aidan.

She even sent a selfie, to show Abbie she really wasn't the father of her baby.

But that response promoted an angry outburst from Abbie, who then thought she was texting Aidan's girlfriend.

She wrote, "well tell your d**k of a boyfriend we need to talk about this.

"You’re a mug he cheated on you."

Sophie told UniLad she thought the whole episode was hilarious.

"I saw the message and was still half asleep I was so confused," she says.

"I was like 'I haven’t got anyone pregnant, wait how can I get anyone pregnant anyway', then I felt a bit bad because obviously she had the wrong number.

"I told her she had the wrong number and then when she got all rude and just wasn't believing it, I just got even more confused and baffled I didn't know what to think or how to take it because of how she acted."

Sophie decided to post the text exchange on Twitter – but was accused by some users of making the whole thing up.

"It's funny, a lot of the replies were calling it fake because I covered my face in the post but I just woke up," she explained.

"I'm not posting a picture of my face first thing in the morning.

"A lot of the replies were people tagging people called Aidan, or guys called Aidan popping up like 'I swear it's not me'."
