Channel Nine newsreader Alicia Loxley has welcomed a baby girl.

Ada Elizabeth is the third child for the Melbourne journalist and her husband, Kane.

Loxley shared the happy news on Wednesday afternoon, posting a photo on Instagram of the newborn with her two big brothers, Ned and Archie.

Loxley also shared a photo of herself cradling her daughter in her arms, which she captioned simply: "Ada."

The proud mum learned she was pregnant with little Ada while on a family holiday last year.

"We're both thrilled," she told 9Honey at the time.

"Also a little bit daunted by the prospect of adding to the clan – but really, really excited."

Loxley recalled bringing Archie and Ned, then aged two and four, along to the first scan so they could see the growing baby for themselves.

"It was a really special moment: seeing their faces, which just lit up when they saw this tiny little baby – which was moving around quite a lot, actually," she said.

"I think that's when it started to sink in for them."

Loxley also told 9Honey she and Kane weren't planning to find out the sex of the baby ahead of the birth.

"If we had a girl it would be amazing, obviously. But it'd also be really fun (but also crazy!) to have three boys," she said, adding that her sons were eager for a little brother.

"We've tried to explain that there's not a lot we can do about it now."

Judging by the big smiles on their faces in Loxley's Instagram photo, Ned and Archie are equally over the moon to have a little sister.
