Former NRL star Alex McKinnon and wife Teigan welcome their first child

Former NRL player Alex Mckinnon and his wife Teigan have welcomed their first child.

The couple announced the arrival of Harriet Anne McKinnon on social media this morning.

"When 2 became 3," Teigan wrote on Instagram along with a photo of the proud parents with their new bundle of joy.

The little girl was born on Sunday, October 7 just one day before the pair's first wedding anniversary on October 8.

Both Alex, 26, and Teigan posted photos of baby Harriet to Instagram which have already been liked by thousands of people.

The ex-Dragons and Knights player, who became quadriplegic following a high-tackle during a 2014 game, posted a photo of the new family with the words "Harry Anniversary".

The couple announced the pregnancy via social media on March 29.

"So overwhelmed with joy to finally announce Baby Mckinnon is coming soon!" Teigan posted to Instagram.

The high school sweethearts wed in a lavish ceremony on October 8 last year in the Hunter Valley, surrounded by friends and family, as well as plenty of NRL stars.

There wasn't a dry eye in the house when Alex stood out of his wheelchair at the top of the aisle waiting for his bride.

"I don't think there's many couples who have been through what we've been through and continue to get stronger and stronger," he told Teigan in a video posted to Instagram at the time.

"Our journey together has taken us so many places. Unfortunately, the road that we've been travelling along has sometimes been rough but we've never let it stop us from having a great time."
