Alex McKinnon and wife Teigan expecting first child

Former rugby league player Alex McKinnon is expecting his first child with his wife Teigan.

Alex, 26, announced the news on Instagram, sharing a photo of himself and Teigan holding an ultrasound photo.

"Baby McKinnon coming soon," the caption read. Teigan, who is due to give birth in October, shared the same photo and wrote that she is "overwhelmed with joy" to be pregnant. 

The exciting news comes six months after the pair tied the knot.

Four years ago, in March 2014, the former Dragon and Knights forward was diagnosed a quadriplegic after he was injured on the field.

Days later, he proposed to Teigan from his hospital bed, and vowed he would stand again on the day of their wedding - a promise he fulfilled.
