UK TV presenter Alex Jones was on air one hour after learning she'd had a miscarriage

A UK TV presenter has opened up about the day doctors informed her she'd suffered a miscarriage.

Alex Jones, who hosts chat program The One Show, told The Telegraph she was back in front of the camera one hour after receiving the heartbreaking news in 2017.

Jones and her husband Charlie Thomson learned their baby didn't have a heartbeat during a 14-week scan originally intended to determine their due date.

"It hit us like a ton of bricks ... You're in that room looking for answers that you're never going to get," she tells reporter India Sturgis.

"You're thinking: 'Have I done something wrong? What did I do differently? ... Was I putting too much pressure on myself?'"

That same day, Jones returned to work to record an episode of The One Show, despite her boss, whom she'd confided in, telling her she didn't need to.

"I said, 'What else am I going to do?' It’s a horrible feeling because it is so empty," she recalls.

The TV host's pregnancy had come 10 months after she and Thomson became parents for the first time to their son Teddy.

Teddy will soon have a little brother or sister, as his mum is now seven and a half months pregnant.

Jones admits falling pregnant again after losing a baby felt "completely different", as she couldn't allow herself to relax.

"I couldn’t enjoy it for a long time and didn’t tell anyone for ages," she tells The Telegraph.

In Australia, as many as one in four confirmed pregnancies end in miscarriage before 20 weeks.
