Aldi's 'Special Buys' lines could soon be a thing of the past

Queuing for Aldi's weekly 'Special Buys' has become a rite of passage for the cost-conscious consumer, but it may soon be a thing of the past.

The budget supermarket chain has this week begun selling select items from the coveted Special Buys catalogue online, allowing customers to shop from the comfort of their home.

Customers from the Greater Metro Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria area will be able to access the new initiative.

The trial is set to test a range of products over the next few months, ranking from large-scale steals to everyday bargains.

It's been two decades since Aldi first opened a store in the Sydney suburbs of Marrickville and Bankstown.

The store's new move launches it into the e-commerce world for the first time, following supermarkets like Woolworths and Coles, which have a vast range of grocery products available online.

The first products available as part of Aldi's limited trial this week are a queen-sized latex mattress in a box for $499 and a French Door Fridge for $879.

They will be made available online on May 26 and May 29 respectively.

The vacuum-packed mattress includes a memory foam layer with removable covers for easy washing and includes a 12-month warranty.

The French door fridge boasts a 545L capacity, including a chilled water dispenser, two crisper drawers with humidity controls and super freezing and supercooling functions.

The products will be released on shop.aldi.com.au and in the Aldi catalogue.
