Woman's shock discovery inside Airbnb: 'Looks totally normal'

A Canadian woman has made a shocking discovery during a recent stay at an Airbnb.

She shared on TikTok @kennedyallegedly that she was on a girl's trip for a 30th birthday party in a group of 15 when one of her friends told her she felt like she was being watched.

Despite their assurances this was unlikely, the friend began searching the location, looking for a hidden camera.

"She looked in like every shower head, all the picture frames, doorknobs, everywhere in the house for a camera and she found one in the bathroom," the woman explained.

"One of the outlets was faced directly to the shower," she continued. "First of all this outlet didn't work at all. You couldn't plug anything into it."

She then showed the outlet in question, pointing to the camera positioned inside it.

"You can see in the top here there's nothing, looks totally normal," she said. "And then the bottom one, look at that little camera!"

They called the police and reflected on their bathroom activities that up until then, had been observed by the offender.

The police found multiple cameras in the location and contacted the owner for further investigations, saying they had "scheduled an interview" with them and are sending the cameras for analysis.

The woman said Airbnb had refunded them for their stay.

The woman's video has been viewed by 4.6 million TikTokers, with many commenting they'd be checking their Airbnbs for hidden cameras in the future.

"Ask the police officer what your next steps can be. They'll come up with the charges and you can press charges," another said.

One suggested she ask Airbnb to "cancel" the hosts.

"Your friend's intuition was on point, wow," commented another.

"Oh, this freaks me out because last summer we were in Orlando and had four bathrooms in every one of them had a outlet that didn't work it was weird," one TikToker shared.

UPDATE

The law enforcement agency investigating this report, the Sunshine Coast Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), has today publicly confirmed that the devices reported "were in fact electrical outlets and did not contain cameras, lenses or any type of storage/recording devices". An Airbnb spokesperson told 9Honey the company is "thankful to the Sunshine Coast RCMP for their investigation, and our hope is that the guests are reassured by their findings. Following their investigation, we have also reinstated the Host.

"Our stance remains firm – hidden cameras are prohibited on Airbnb, and issues of that nature on our platform are incredibly rare."
