Deb Knight: 'The milestone we should be celebrating more'

There are all sorts of interesting facts about the number seven.

There are seven colours in the rainbow, seven wonders of the world, seven notes in a musical scale and seven days in the week.

There is, however, no risk of suffering from the seven-year itch when it comes to 9honey. There's no angst or restlessness from the website's many fans.

The successful and popular site is celebrating its seventh anniversary, and is going from strength to strength.

I've been a regular contributor to 9honey from day one, and I'm in sync with 9honey on this milestone.

I'm also the mother of a seven-year-old daughter, Audrey – the youngest of my three children.

So what are the lessons from having a seven-year-old in your life? It's true they can often be more like seven going on 17.

The pre-teen years are meant to start at nine years of age, but the sassiness from a seven-year-old can sometimes give a 13-year-old a run for their money!

A seven-year-old also brings the joy and innocence of a young child. Santa and the Tooth Fairy and unicorns are still magical and mystical.

Belief might start to waver, but doubts are quickly overshadowed by the excitement that comes with Christmas and Easter and Halloween for most seven-year-olds.

A seven-year-old is also developing terrific skills that can make a family outing that much more rewarding.

The L-plates are starting to come off for bike riding and roller skating and scootering.

A bush walk might still come with complaints, but the distance travelled can last more than a few hundred metres before the requests to be carried.

The rules for sport are starting to sink in, as are the skills needed to play not just as a crowded pack on the netball or basketball or football field, but as a team.

The budding dancers and musicians and artists are starting to flourish, and it's a joy to see.

Seven is never really celebrated as a major milestone, but it should be.

So much can be achieved in seven years, as has been the case with 9Honey. And just as with our seven-year-old children, it's exciting to know the best for this website is yet to come!
