Awww young love! 9-year-old weeps as she bids boyfriend of seven years goodbye

When one family moved house, there was couple co-ordinated dressing...and tears as the 9-year-olds said goodbye.

Wearing matching black and white plaid shirts, the braided brunette cutie wiped away big tears as she hugged her little man tight.

Big sister Haylie, who posted the sweet snaps on Twitter, is seen waiting in the car as the couple said their goodbyes.

"My little sisters boyfriend is moving and their goodbyes were the saddest thing ever," she commented alongside the images, which quickly went viral - with 56,000 retweets and 185K likes.

Merce and Mylee "go waaaaaay back" as kids in Louisiana, according to Merce's dad, Glen Meynardie, who also took to Twitter, sharing a photo of the pair as toddlers.

It was in  response to Hailey's post, to which he commented: "When your son goes viral on twitter and you don't even know."

Glen then reveal the young "couple's" heartbreaking separation is due to a job opportunity which came up in California, that he just couldn't pass up.

“When Mylee found out we were moving, she said, ‘My life is over. I’m supposed to marry Merce. How am I going to marry him if he is in California?’” he told Yahoo! Beauty in an interview.

He also revealed the pair met when they were around two at Merce's grandmother's dance studio and held hands at competitions.

While noting the pair are not allowed to date, he says they gave themselves the girlfriend/boyfriend tag very early on.

“They have always said they were boyfriend and girlfriend for as long as I can remember,” Glen said.

“They greet each other with a hug before class, and after each class, Merce walks her to the car and hugs her goodbye,” he added.

Now the internet is hoping this young love-story lasts long distance or at least picks up where they left off in the next five to ten years.
