'You look like John Travolta': Bride stunned by mum's response to her wedding gown on Say Yes To The Dress: Lancashire

When it came to her big day, bride-to-be Kirsty had a strong vision in mind.

"Whatever I chose to wear, it really has to break the mould," Kirsty explained.

That dream involves wearing pants on her wedding day rather than a traditional gown.

Resembling "John Travolta" however was not on the cards – which is exactly what her mother thought when Kirsty first stepped out.

In an episode of Say Yes To The Dress: Lancashire – which you can watch for free on 9Now– the fashion-forward bride had her sights set on a "statement" wedding outfit.

Along for the fitting was her mum, Helen, plus her best friend and sister.

"I want her to look like a princess for the day," admitted mum Helen. "I want to see her in a ballgown."

Kirsty on the other hand had a very different brief – trousers.

"I wouldn't feel right wearing anything else because of how confident I am in my own style," Kirsty told cameras.

Bridal expert Gok Wan introduced her to a "huge new trend" at weddings, bridal jumpsuits. Hand-picked for Kirsty was a stunning lace jumpsuit with a delicate overskirt.

"Oh wow," said Kirsty as she smiled in the mirror. But what was her mother's verdict?

Kirsty's mum was loving the "classic" look, until her eyes went down to the pants.

"Oh my god," said mum Helen under her breath. She was not keen on the trousers, at all.

"They're 'flarey', they remind me of the 1970's... John Travolta," she blurted.

Kirsty admitted her heart sank hearing her mum's reaction at the fitting. "Fashion has been and always will be a huge part of my life," said Kirsty.

This isn't the first time a mother's been unhappy with her daughter's bridal choices.
