Reese Witherspoon opens up about 'really close' friendship with Beyoncé
We all have those celebrity girl crushes who we'd love to think we could be best friends with. I, for example, have already had multiple imaginary shopping trips with Meryl Streep and done a few quick workout/smoothie dates with my gal pal Jen Aniston.
But there are very few of us who can 'fess up to an A-list friendship for real, and fewer still who can say they're besties with the Queen Bey herself, Beyoncé.
Reese Witherspoon appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Nine
"Guys, I didn't know it was like a BYOB thing," Reese Witherspoon told Ellen DeGeneres of sitting near Beyoncé and Jay Z at the Golden Globes during her appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. (We obviously know that Reese is also A-list and a major star.)
"I just noticed that they were having champagne, and we had run out of water at our table. So, I was thirsty and so was Aniston who was sitting next to me. And I was like, 'Well, Jay Z seemed to have a giant bottle of champagne.'"
Reese recalled that the rapper offered her a drink when she approached the table, "and he was like, 'Yeah, do you want some champagne?' I was like, 'Yes, I do,' because clearly he brings the good stuff," she joked as Ellen and the studio audience laughed along with her.
Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon have also been close friends. Apple
The Big Little Lies actress cheekily admitted that she is a close friend of the A-list musical couple — enough, at least, to share a glass of their fancy champagne at an awards ceremony.
"Beyoncé and I are really good friends. I mean really, really, really good friends," Reese said with a big grin. "I mean, in fact, you might say best friends. Some might say that."
When asked if she texts with the singer, Reese continued to joke, "Oh, all the time. I just have a little bee emoji in my phone because I don't want people to know."
And here's the real mark of their friendship: for a brief moment, Beyoncé followed Reese on Instagram — a big deal considering Beyoncé follows no one.
"If you don't follow each other on Instagram, are you even best friends? I'm looking at you, @TheEllenShow…" Reese wrote.
No matter how covert this Hollywood friendship may (or may not) be, it's still enviable enough for all of us who will continue to hash out our personal issues with an imaginary Emma Thompson while in the shower.
The Ellen DeGeneres Show airs weekdays at 12.00pm on Nine. Catch up on latest episodes on 9Now.
