Police officers and fire fighters perform CPR on choking puppy

A group of police officers and firefighters have saved the life of a nine-week-old puppy who nearly choked to death.

Megan Vitale burst into the North Reading police station in Massachusetts in a panic on Sunday after realising her saint Bernard wasn’t breathing.

Officers jumped into action, performing a puppy version of the Heimlich manoeuvre on little Bodhi.

With a series of blows to his back and chest compressions, the officers managed to dislodge the what was stuck his throat.

But the job wasn’t done.

Firefighters rushed to the station’s lobby to administer oxygen to the little guy, who had been brought to the police station limp and totally unresponsive.

As we learned from a media statement from the North Reading police, the firies had a mask specifically designed for pets.

The 10-minute saga was caught on security cameras aimed at the lobby and shared with local media.

Jorge Hernandez, the officer who acted as a puppy paramedic, spoke at a press conference after the emergency.

“You don’t really get trained for a dog at the academy,” he said.

“So the only thing going through my mind was ‘Oh my God I hope I’m doing this right,'” Officer Jorge Hernandez said.

As we learned from a report from CBS Local, little Bodhi is now recovering at the vet.
