Dog mystified when owner suddenly vanishes during game of hide-and-seek

Dogs are one of the smartest animal species, capable of astounding feats of problem solving, conceptualisation and recollection.

But they can also be really, hilariously dumb — just ask any dog lover who's tried not to laugh after their pooch has charged into a glass door.

Take Lola, a loveably dopey English bull terrier who's playing happily at home with her owner when he suddenly vanishes.

You can almost hear her thinking "WHERE THE F--- DID HE GO?!" as she spins on the spot, unaware he's hiding behind a door just a couple of feet from her.

As commenters on Reddit point out, Lola's dumbfounded reaction isn't as silly as it looks: she starts by spinning on the spot, then slowly widening her search to cover as much ground as possible.

So even when they're being dopes, they're still pretty clever.

Sadly this video ends before Lola finds her owner, but in another hide-and-seek game she's delighted to finally find him.
