Eye-wateringly expensive Lamborghini catches fire after servo mishap

Dannielle Maguire

Footage of a car driving off with a petrol nozzle still attached is going viral after a luxury Lamborghini was destroyed by fire at a US service station.

The footage was captured by a bystander at a servo in Kirkwood, US, who was checking out two sweet rides - a Lamborghini Gallardo Performante and Lamborghini Huracán Performante.

The admiring man appeared not to notice the driver of the van damaging a nearby petrol pump when they drove off.

The vision doesn’t show any dramatic fiery scenes, but alludes to how the limited edition Huracán was destroyed.

It’s believed the blue car – well it was blue before it became a burnt-out shell – was worth more than $450,000.

The footage was shared to Facebook by Parker Gelber, a car salesman from St Louis, with the video clocking up nearly 500,000 views in just eight hours.

Gelber’s post explained that, thankfully, no one was hurt as a result of the blaze.

He was there with another mate when they pulled into the servo for a top up.

“He decided to go in to get us waters and while I was trying to pay for my gas at the pump there was a card error, so I also went inside,” Gelber said.

“As soon as we walked in, we saw a massive fireball out the window.

“We all ran out of the gas station to the other side of the road.

“While talking to police and firefighters a man ran up and said he saw what happened.

“He was recording the cars to show his friends and caught a guy driving off with a gas pump still in his car.

“The pump sprayed fuel directly into the Huracan’s engine bay and it instantly ignited.”

According to a yarn from Rachel Sudduth for KMOV.com, the fire spread to a nearby pump, but firefighters were able to stop the blaze from destroying further property.

As of Monday afternoon, police were still yet to confirm the cause of the fire.
