Man makes perfectly-timed getaway from jail garage

Security cameras have captured the moment a man made a mad dash from a police vehicle, and it’s so well-timed it’s almost poetic.

Michael Maldonado fled from the garage of the Porter Country jail in the US state of Indiana on Monday, making for the exit just before the automatic door closed. 

According to a Facebook post from the Porter County Sherriff’s Office, he had no shoes and was restrained in handcuffs.

But that didn’t stop him making a dash for freedom.

Security footage from the jail was posted to the Nwitimestv YouTube channel, with vision of him inside the garage clocking up more than 30,000 views in one day.

Footage of him running away from the jail, recorded from a camera stationed outside the garage, has been viewed more than 7600 times.

The video ends with officers and a police dog hot on the fleeing suspect’s tail.

Maldonado was arrested on charges of resisting law enforcement with injury and possession of a hypodermic needle after a traffic stop.

Police believe he may have stolen a getaway vehicle later that day, with a car yard reporting a missing Ford Focus to police a little more than an hour after his escape.

Officers searched for the man on foot and in police vehicles, but, as of Wednesday morning, there have been no updates about the fugitive being located.
