Neighbour calls police over frightening Halloween decoration

It looks like a scene out of a nightmare-inducing Stephen King movie.

The words 'Help Me' are scrawled in what appears to be blood from inside a house along with bloody hand prints.

What sort of grisly deeds could have happened inside this home in North Dakota?

Happily, it's only an early Halloween decoration, but that possibility was lost on worried neighbours who called the police in fear.

A cop duly arrived at the home of Becky Muhs but decided the decoration could stay.

“Halloween is my favourite holiday”, Muhs told WDAY .

Her birthday is October 29 and her wedding anniversary on October 31 itself.

Being such a Halloween lover, Muhs gets into the spirit a little early. 

The window decoration was the first thing she hung up, heading off to dinner before putting anything else up. 

And so, without the context of other decorations, it looked quite worrying.

Muhs is taking the incident as a compliment.

“It's any Halloween lover’s dream come true to get that kind of reaction to decorations,” she told Fox News.

“And honestly it's very reassuring to know the we have such good neighbors looking out for us… even if it might have made him look a little silly, it was all in good fun.

“We are still giggling here.”
