Greyhound goes viral after no one turned up to read to him at local library

Sting, a 10-year-old greyhound, visits his local library twice a month so children can read to him.

But when he turned up last week, there was no one there.

So his owner John Muellner put out a call on Facebook to see if someone wanted to spend some time with his special guy.

“Unfortunately nobody signed up to read to Sting at the White Bear Lake library tonight,” he wrote in a Facebook post.

“If you know of a four to eight-year-old who would like to read to a dog, please contact the White Bear Lake library by phone or their website about the Paws to Read program.”

Of course, with Sting looking so sad, the photos prompted a huge response.

The post was shared more than 100,000 times and attracted more than 26,000 comments.

No one wanted to see poor Sting looking that way.

But after the photos went viral, it looks like he’ll never be stood up at the library again.

According to a story from the US’s Today show, reading sessions with Sting have been booked out until April.

The former racing dog is now a certified emotional therapy dog and has been participating in the Paws to Read program for the past two years.

Basically, the program aims to encourage children to read by putting them in a comfortable, non-threatening situation with a cute dog.

Three children usually get to read to Sting during each of his hour-long sessions.

Sting also helps out at his local hospital. 

He's just a very, very good dog.

But even though he loves helping out, Muellner says Sting wasn’t as sad as he looked in the photos when no one turned up.

"It's just his look," he said. 

"It's his signature look."

So even though he permanently has a bit of a long face, we’re happy to report that Muellner’s tail is always wagging.
